Our New Year’s Eve was a combo party celebrating BB’s 40th birthday as well as the new year. Treasury Ballroom was done up with a very Great Gatsby feel and there were gaming tables keeping everyone hard at play. Birthday festivities and toasting commenced at 11 pm and started the countdown to the ball drop. At midnight the party exploded into dancing for the rest of the night.

Here’s a quick pic from our gig this past weekend at the Sentinel Hotel (formerly Governor) for the French American International School’s annual fundraising gala. The Sentinel just completed a massive facelift and is a gorgeous venue for any private event. The FAIS is an immersion school that teaches children an international curriculum including multilingual immersion. Learn more about what the school has to offer at www.FAISPDX.org.
As a company that services a wide variety of events in many different places, we definitely get to see trends and changes firsthand. We can always tell what changes from season to season with Mitzvahs, weddings and most importantly, school functions. High school kids definitely have tastes that change the quickest and sometimes the most drastic. Social media and smartphones have connected people with a consistency that has taken some of the excitement out of actual gatherings.
Recently we’ve noticed a few articles published about declining attendance at school dances. The Business Insider article below is probably the most eye-opening one we’ve read. Years from now there will undoubtedly be an avalanche of studies published on how smartphone and social media addiction adversely affect social skills and relationships but schools cancelling dances because children would rather stay home and text is an obvious current problem. We service quite a few functions where parents designate the party to be a “cell phone free” zone. After all, you’ve got a professional photographer to take photos and all your friends are right there, right?
Over the past couple of years, MES has been doing quite a bit of work with the good people at Ruby Receptionists. If you’re unfamiliar, Ruby Receptionists is a Portland-based virtual receptionist company. Their commitment to customer service and employee appreciation has made them not only one of the “Top 10 Best Large Companies to Work For in Oregon” but also one of the Top 3 Best Small Companies to Work For in the US as rated by Fortune Magazine and the Great Place to Work Institute. It’s hard to work with a company like that and not have a great time.
In December we helped make their annual holiday party a special one. Check out the more photos from the party HERE.
